lip-ddictions

credit- mimifroufrou.com

as Gwenyth Paltrow once said -
"Beauty to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick."
(NT- I don't really admire Gweny, or her fruit names, her husband is pretty decent but)

I'm a little (a lot) obsessed with lipstick.
preferably red.
Not sure what it is about it,
makes me feel powerful
and I feel a little nakey without it on.

ANYWAY
on the never ending quest to find the perfect shade
I've found the holy grail
Enter Tom Ford
Cherry Lush
It's amaze-balls
my new best friend, I haven't left the house without him.

(cue gush)
it's really moisturising
 stays on through anything
colour is mega rich
and the packaging is pretty lush (the black MAC bullet ain't got nothing on TF)
Thinking I need the orange one they used in their campaign.
It's Fords first foray in the makeup world, and he got it right on the money!
It's a little exxy but seriously worth every penny.

belated birthdays

so my birthday season/month/week celebrations have all but ended- well this isn't entirely true. (finally Sydney jaunt is happening tonight)

My friends are really actually brilliant and I'm so lucky to have them (naw)..
for the big 2+5 day we gathered at a dirty pub and then headed to EST (pizza on east tce) it's relatively new and my gosh the pizza is absolutely mouth watering, seriously salivating while writing this, please try it asap!

Down dancing to a crazy little band into the late hours of the night to Rolling Stones classics and King Prawn Truffle wood-oven pizza maketh my day p-e-r-f-e-c-t.

ps- loving my little Sass & Bide Sweet Imposition Shrug (I seem to have Temper Trap hum in my head when I say this) perfect little evening weather friend because I've exhausted all my cardis.

Attitude presents: Fabrication

What do you get when you combine a good cause, a whole bunch of talented emerging designers and a bag of gaudy recycled threads... well you get, FABRICATION! (click for facie link)

Pretty much the most brilliant concept to come out of Adelaide is the brainchild of mastermind duo Katherine Liew ( Caught Couture) and established designer Cristina Tridente.

Not only do you have the local talent showcasing their wears, but you will get a preview of the summer ranges from GretaKate, Azalia Boutique, Rewind Recycled Boutique and Vevo all paraded by the stunning Pride Models.

The event is tomorrow night ( Wednesday 24th ) at The Hotel Tivoli and is in support of CANTEEN- charity for teens living with cancer, kudos for fashion charity karma!

**Note the event has just SOLD OUT (no surprises here) but there will be a limited number of tix at the door, so get there early!

13 handpicked designers have been so busy vigorously designing their new/old outfits for tomorrow, but I managed to nab one of them for a quickie (interview! get your minds out of the gutter)

Q&A with DAN GALUT

1. day job
graduate architect working for Roarkus Moss Architects

2. starsign
pisces

2. dream job
creative director for my own clothing label or my own architectural firm

3. your inspiration for the idea you have for Fabrication
The underlying theme for the show is ‘Bad Romance’. The obvious path to go down was to take cues from Lady Gaga - Bad Romance but we didn’t want to go down that path.
We invented a story, an event which evokes ‘Bad Romance’. We imagined a 15th/16th century heiress on her wedding day which suddenly turns into a tragedy. The husband to be unexpectedly dies at the aisle and what was to be a joyous day suddenly turned into mourning. The contrast between Wedding/Mourning was the idea which we tried to implement into the design.

(I say we because I worked on the piece with my friend Nick Neill.)

4. why you got involved in Fabrication?
long story short , it was through browsing caughcouture.com and found the link from there. It’s rare that anything like this happens in Adelaide. Unfortunately when I enquired about entering, registration had already lapsed but through persuasion and of course with the cooperation of Cristina and Katherine I managed find myself involved.

5. favourite colour
black

6. favourite designer
Alexander McQueen RIP. I love the theatrics with his creations. The explorative notions and the narrative he evoked. It’s indulgent, exuberant, meticulous and refined.

7. best way to spend a sunday
sunday siesta

8. fav adelaide clothing haunts
I don’t generally buy clothes anymore only because I try to make things for myself now; however, top three would be realstore, rhd and one arm scissor.

9. most favourite clothing item you have.
At the moment a tshirt I made – raglan cut, low back, reversed floral print.

10. best op shop you've ever been to
Savers in Hawaii

Good luck Dan and to the rest of the designers I can't wait to see what you all come up with!!

See you there Adelaide!

leaky Pirelli

It was mentioned earlier this year that (uncle) Karl Lagerfield was next in line to shoot the coveted 2011 Pirelli calendar.
K.L is following in the famous snapshots of former straight shooters such as Terry Richardson (last years man), Annie Leibowitz, Mario Testino, Clive Arrowsmith, Nick Knight and Patty Demarchelier who have all be bestowed with such an honor.

Uncle Karl did mention that he was against the idea of shooting on a beach because it was all too obvious (thats so like him), so it is being shot in his Paris pad, with the theme being Greek and Roman Mythology inspired...

and guess what! last night one of the images was leaked out to the www, it was supposed to kept behind bars till the end of Nov, oopsy.
The pix is 'Bacchus with Two Bacchantes', featuring hotties Garret Neff, Isabeli Fontana and Bianca Balti.

Unfortunately it's not a nudie shot, but he wouldn't go against the grain of what the VIP calendar is all about...

Too bad none of us will be getting our perverted mitts on it since it's reserved for only the elite to bestow on their walls (nightstands, porn drawers), still can't wait to see what he comes up with.

favourite app of the week - INSTAGRAM

I think I may be way behind the 8-ball with this one, but the IPhone App 'Instagram' has to be my most favourite find this week, and its free! (yay)
It's a mash up of twitter, tumblr and hipstamatic and it's so additively awesome that I had to share it.

I'm camera-crazy, and usually I get a little bored of the camera apps on offer, but something about Instagram has me hooked, the fact I'm writing a blog post on it is definitely saying something.

You can follow friends like on any social network and see their pics, and like, comment ect ect.  Basically you use it to shoot anything as you normally would on your iPhone, and (now this is the best part) you can simultaneously chuck it up on twitter, facebook, foursquare, tumblr, and flickr (how brilliant) its become my default picture sharer. (and everyone looks good lomo-ised) happy days.

It has about 10 different LOMO lenses that make the most lamest shot look rad and you can even dump previously saved pics to upload on your 'camera wheel'.
- The down side? It doesn't give you the option to use flash (for iphone4 users) so its strictly a day time, high light app)

Anyway. please follow me 'cakefaceblog' and I'll follow you, and we can be super awesome iphotographers together.

Here are a few sample pics of some I have prepared earlier using the random settings :)

refined guides to being a blogging super star.

Loving Refinery29's latest info graphic, bloody hilarious, kinda reminiscent of my early teen years doing quizzes in Dolly and Girlfriend..
Being the social media whore that I am (whore in a social way) I could relate to this in er, every way.(without sounding like a complete twat)

Blogspot (and wordpress, and twitter, and everything else) (tick)
Bangs (tick)
Friend with camera (Ferris) (tick)
Red Lipstick (tick)
Cookie Cutter poses (tick)
Have absolutely no shame in taking awkward self indulgent pics of myself (tick)

Pretty sure the last one has defined me as a complete twat, but isn't that the point? I guess it's easy to fall into the self-conscious mind space of being the 'shy-type' after-all blogging is an exposing thing.
Bite your lip luv, and pose against that obscure wall with all your might!

The thing is, yeah I guess we are all the same, in some way, and the fact that there are 2 million bloggers out there now, means that the breadth of obscurity and creativity is clearly going to be reciprocated on more than one blogspot right?

Without taking it seriously, its a true piss-take of any blogger out there, namely the big guns eg.  BryanBoy (loving his latest twitpic, and Ipad and Mulberry!)

Long live the blogger! I predict within 12 months the whole concept is going to implode the atmosphere and none of us will bain to exist (mark my words), so make the most of it while you can still get a bag named after you.

the tday.

There is nothing quite possibly better than living a hop, skip and jump from the beach.
There is also nothing more special than sharing the exact same birthday as one of your lovely friends.

Since we were turning a quarter of a century, Jam and I thought of a magnificent way to bring in the day just before the bell tolled. (we both agree it will never be beaten either)

Wonderful wine, cigars (first time for everything?) sparklers, a deserted beach and a beautiful night.

Happy Birthday to us!

Also only a a couple of hours earlier the eve of the day Pock (not a birthday sharer) took me for a burnt coffee at our favourite (not favourite) beach cafe.

American Apparel lovers it appears, with both of us donning signature pieces.
Loving my AA white Sexuality tee and thought I'd dust off the Funkis Clogs (most sexually unappealing footwear),
I also took my new Mimco Double Couch in Geranium quilt out of a play. loves.

officially old.

WARNING: THIS POST IS COMPLETELY SELF-INDULGENT AND SUPERFICIAL.

So tomorrow it's my birthday, and plans have gone completely a rye with my trip to Sydney for the day postponed I now have to settle for a lovely day off in Adelaide.(massive sad face)

LETS TAKE A MOMENT TO REFLECT
I guess this year has been pretty good, but it's funny to think back at what you thought you would achieve at some significant age, and how differently things have panned out.... right now if things had turned out the way I 'thought' they would have I'd be hitched, and a lawyer. (long distant relationship and a budding journo?)

I've been discussing the whole coming of age issue with some friends, and how differently people symbolise their day of birth each year ect..
My usual ritual is that I either spend the day with my significant other (obviously not happening this year) so in absence of that I will spend the day being selfish and devoting everything to me. (you're allowed to be selfish on your birthday)

I was trying to work out with my friends what I was going to buy myself as a birthday gift this year... this got some mixed reactions? Apparently it's not a common cause to buy yourself something?
I find this odd.
Surely you can specifically award yourself a gift for surviving a whole year of your life right??? (this is different to just shopping randomly and rewarding yourself for sticking to a diet ect)
Buying one specific sentimental object (it can't be entirely frivolous) to symbolise that specific age/time of your life has become a private ritual for me, I don't care how neurotic it is really.

So here are my top self-birthday gifts, and for further information my birthday gift registry is at Net-A-Porter.com. (perhaps not really true)

please note. these are not wishful thinking gifts, if it was I'm pretty sure a Patent Jumbo Chanel 2.55 would rate rather high right now.
